When you create content for your website you have to ensure you have original content otherwise you can be sued for plagiarism... ...Images/Graphics are no different.
If you have taken the image yourself or have written permission to use the images by the owner then you will be OK. If you have taken the image from a stock photography website or taken from the default images on your PC or from somewhere like Google Images then you may be in for a shock.
By taking an image from the internet and using as your own you may be guilty of copyright infringement and land yourself a heavy fine. Copyright infringement is illegal. Just because an image is available online, this doesnt mean it belongs to everyone. If you are tempted by a "stock" image it is essential that you adhere to the end-user agreement.
Royalty-free does not mean copyright-free. The owner of a royalty-free image still owns the copyright. Royalty-free means that you may have only one payment to make and then are free to use the image as many times as you want without having to pay for each seperate occassion...but you would still be expected to adhere to any licence agreement attached to that image.
You should NOT be using any clipart images found on your computer as there are still terms attached to these. Most graphics and images will have a restriction on it.
The only way to truly have a unique image is to create one yourself. BUT do not be tempted to use part of an image that does not belong to you. There is sophisticated software being used to monitor this type of behaviour. Use something like TinEye to see if your image is used elsewhere and who is may belong to.
Otherwise you are opening yourself up to the possibility of legal action being taken against you.
Please also be aware that Global Prospect are not responsible for the content of your website. Once we hand it over to you, it's your responsibility as a website owner/manager to ensure that everything on your website actually belongs to you.
